Environmental Project : From Seeds to Table

General Objective: To raise environmental awareness and promote healthy habits by planting vegetables and herbs, learning their growth process, and using them in healthy recipes to raise funds for a group activity.

Specific Objectives:

*Learn vocabulary related to gardening and vegetables in English.

*Understand the life cycle of a plant.

*Develop responsibility by taking care of plants.

*Foster teamwork through group planting and cooking.

*Use English in context through posters, labels, and recipes.

*Raise funds with a food sale to support a shared goal.Materials

* Seed trays/ planting containers ( almacigueras)

* Seeds: broccoli, chard, parsley, lettuce, radish, arugula

* Soil, labels,water bottles

* Garden tools

*Notebooks for plant observation.

* Poster materials for food sale (markers, paper, scissors).

*Cooking ingredients and utensils (later phase)

 

Project PhasesWeek 1: Introduction and Planting Seeds

Activities:

* Introduce the project: From Seeds to Table

* Teach vocabulary: seeds, soil, water, sun, grow, broccoli, lettuce, etc.

* Watch a short video about planting or plant life cycle.

* Plant seeds in seed trays (almacigueras) in small groups.

* Label each tray with the vegetable name in English.

* Make a " Plant Growth Journal" ( students draw and write observations weekly).

 

Language focus:

We are planting...This is broccoli.It needs water and sun.

Week 2-4: Caring for the Plants

​

Activities:

* Watering, observing, and noting growth in journals.

* Learn parts of the plant: roots,stem,leaves.

* Review weather vocabulary ( sunny,rainy, cloudy) and how it affects plants.

Week 5: Transplanting Day

​

Activities:

* Review what the plants need to grow in soil.

* Transplant seedlings to the garden or soil pots.

* Practice giving and following instructions in English: "Dig a hole", "Put the plant in", "Cover with soil", "Water it".

Week 6-- 7: Recipe Planning and Poster Creation

Activities:

* Brainstorm simple recipes using the harvested vegetables.

* Example: Lettuce and radish salad, parsley sauce, broccoli pie.

* Write recipes in English with pictures.

* Create food stand posters:

" Try our healthy food!

" Homegrown veggies!

* Practice role-plays in English: Would you like a salad?- Yes, please!

Week 8: Cooking and Selling Day

​

Activities:

* Prepare recipes together with adult support.

* Set up food stands and sell to families or other classes.

* Use English phrases during the sale: Hello! This is 30 pesos. Thank you!

* Count and keep the money earned in English.

 

Week 9 : Closing Reflection and Celebration Plan.

Activities:

* Reflect on the project: What did we learn? What was difficult?

* Vote on how to spend the money earned ( party, gifts, icecreams, etc).

* Write thank you notes to families/ supporters

 

.EVALUATION CRITERIA

* Participation and responsibility in planting and caring for plants.

* Use of English vocabulary in context

.* Collaboration in team tasks.

* Creative input in recipes and poster design.

* Oral interaction during food sale.
